The Foam Horse

The Foam Horse is inspired by both modern Japanese Manga cartoon style and older Japanese woodcut - especially of Hokusais famous "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" (Kanagawa Oki Nami Ura, lit. 'Under a Wave off Kanagawa') from 1832.

The painting was made for The Students Council of Cathedral School of Haderslev.

Inspired by my collaboration the poet Louise Rosengreen, I have written one of my own poems, Dreamcatcher, on top of The Foam Horse painting, which ties in with my Japanese colleagues' pictures, since they also work with text plastered onto their artworks.

Dreamcatcher
Every night
the rough masks of my dream net floats
through an ocean, where my eye never sees the bottom,
I know, is there,
because,
I've been told.

Every day
I walk on that beach,
and toss stones in that water.
Scaring fish, I can not see,
but knowing,
the next night, I must catch
along with seaweed and thousands of crabs
with lifted pincers.

But when all comes all
I carefully pour
the crabs back

to that bottom

they came from.
